Summer is here! With the Royal Cornwall Show in full swing and scent of barbecue in the air, you can’t mistake the signs of summer. What would you cook on yours? At Rooke Cottages each of our beautiful holiday home-from-homes has a private garden, complete with the very necessary BBQ. Here are a few suggestions as to what to cook on a Cornish barbie in the summer sun.

Wing the Cornish Fishmonger suggest barbecued cod with cumin and a black pepper crust. Sounds delicious! As Poldark season is almost upon us (this Sunday!) how about some Cornish Mackerel smoked over those coals?

If traditional is where its at then look no further than the Kernow Sausage Company. From their jolly website you can pick up the Cornish BBQ pack which includes Trelawney Traditional Sausages, Cornish Hot Dogs, Country Pork Burgers and BBQ Pork ribs. The sausages are a four time gold winning family recipe. Yum!

For vegetarians, everything taste better chargrilled, think slices of aubergine, or halloumi and courgette skewers, cheesy corn on the cob will keep everyone smiling, and that veggie staple, the stuffed pepper – a revolution on over the coals.

Need some tips? Check out chef Andy Appleton at Jamie Oliver’s Fifteen top tips for a perfect barbecue. He seduces us with leg of lamb, roasted veggies, grilled chicken and a tasty potato salad.

For dessert look no further than caramelised bananas served with quintessentially Cornish Kelly’s Ice Cream.
