Why Polzeath? 4 / 8 / 2016

Polzeath Beach by John Such

Summer is in full swing and we are feeling that holiday vibe. One of the most popular destinations for our holiday makers is the surfing beach of Polzeath. What is it that this stretch of the north Cornish coast has to offer? Lets explore…

Polzeath is only really a small village – but in a great spot. This sandy beach draws those on holiday as well as the locals. A safe beach for the family, Polzeath has lifeguards in the day during the summer season and the waves are ideal to learn to surf on. There are surf schools ready and willing to help you conquer your first wave or hone your technique. Surf’s Up Surf School, George’s Surf School and Wavehunters Surf School are right on the beach.

And of course our daughter Sarah manages TJs Surf shop ideal for all your surfing needs – boards, wetsuits and clothing, plus hire equipment too. Check out her own brand, Kalika Swimwear which is doing really well!

So that’s the surfing sorted, but what about the beach itself? Polzeath has a river that can be fun for younger children to play in, and at low tide the amount of sand available is really huge. Plenty of space for everyone. Polzeath is a Blue Flag beach, so the water quality is good and this is one of the many reasons families love it. Another great feature is that you can actually park on the beach itself, ideal for those with access issues. Though be aware that at high tide the car park can be flooded in the Spring months!

Food-wise there are a some good options. From cafe’s to restaurants, ideal for some warming food with a spectacular view. Slightly out of the village there are some great places to eat too, it’s worth exploring. Or keep it simple, grab a picnic, build some sandcastles and enjoy an ice cream!

If your lucky you can spot dolphins, puffins and other sea birds as Polzeath is quite the nature reserve. Weave up the coastal path to see breath taking views – this beach is renowned for its captivating sunsets.

Polzeath attracts a celebrity or two, Hugh Grant has been seen here, David Cameron and his wife have caught a surf lesson on the beach, and the Princes have been spotted surfing the waves too.

Rooke Cottages is ideally located to visit all the best bits of the north coast of our lovely Cornwall. At the end of the day you can relax, de-sand and enjoy your luxury self catering accommodation on our idyllic Cornish farm. Check our availability so you don’t miss out!
