Try Trigging this Easter

Easter a great time to visit Cornwall, the warmer weather and the Spring flowers, but why not try your hand at the local custom of ‘Trigging’. A tradition held on Good Friday where the people would head to the coast to ‘trig’, to collect shellfish by hand. These days it is a good social outing but it would have provided much needed protein for those who couldn’t afford the traditional fish for Good Friday.

In general it is thought the North Coast is best if you are looking for limpets and mussels and the South for cockles and winkles. Put on your wellies, get a group of friends and have a little fun by the sea! Be sure to leave any undersized cockles (smaller than a 20p piece) and just take what you need for you and your family.
