Family Friendly Cornwall 5 / 5 / 2016

Eden project - a great family day out

There is so much to do in Cornwall for families! If the sun is shining then head to the beach – the Cornish coastline rivals any other for beauty, cleanliness and great days out. But whatever the weather we have a number of attractions near us at Rooke Cottages that are perfect for a family friendly holiday.

Cornwall’s Crealy – Now known as Camel Creak Adventure Park – 111 acres of Cornish countryside, family-friendly rides, giant play areas and animal encounters. For rainy days there is a giant indoor play area too.

For those who love trains then in Bodmin we have a steam railway. Themed days out include Santa by Steam, murder mystery trips and jazz dining cars!

Springfields is a great place for kids, with pony rides, go carts, indoor play areas, boats on a lake – all in all a good selection for kids to enjoy. A ticket is valid for a year so good value.

On the outskirts of Bodmin is the National Trust’s Lanhydrock House. Acres for space to run off some steam, delicious food at the cafe or restaurant and the house itself has lots of rooms to explore. You can see how both upstairs and downstairs lived in Victorian England. They also run some great seasonal events for kids too.

Everyone loves a bit of Pirate history! At Charlestown you can find the shipwreck centre. Children go free, this is a good place to go if the weather is less favourable as there is plenty to see indoors and if you are lucky there might be a tall ship in the harbour as well! Charlestown is a lovely day out and has been used often over the years for filming, most recently for TV’s Poldark.

The Eden Project, world renown and quite unique, has giant biomes, one that houses a rainforest and the other Mediterranean plants. In the winter there is ice-skating, in the summer the same space is transformed for gigs. Eden really is the all about making learning fun and there is something to entertain all ages.

Polzeath is our nearest beach and offers great family fun. Here you can choose between a few surf schools, as well as book a boat trip, try stand up paddle boarding or just enjoy this great sandy beach. All the amenities are close at hand and this is a safe beach for kids to enjoy.

Of course Cornwall has plenty to offer that is free – there are plenty of beaches in reach of Rooke Cottages, many great for families to spend the day (check out our beach guide). You can grab a pasty, pack a picnic and take to the woods, the moor or just wander through pretty little villages and harbour towns. A favourite pastime around these parts is crabbing. A perfect spot is Padstow quay and this activity is as popular with parents as it is for kids! Be truly relaxed and stay at the farm – all the cottages on our farm have private gardens which are ideal to watch the kids play and enjoy precious family time in lovely surroundings.

This is just a glimpse at what Cornwall has to offer families, there is so much going on whatever the weather, you probably won’t fit it all in – and we would love to welcome you back!
